Simian Speed Reader

Simian Speed Reader will be my second iPhone app.

It’s based on the ideas of Rapid Serial Visual Presentation. There are several good online versions of this presentation style, and iReadFast is pretty awesome if you have a Mac, but I wanted one for the iPhone.

It’s still under development, but it’s looking good so far. My biggest hurtle is getting books to the app in an easy to understand way. I think what Zach Bedell has done with BookShelf is pretty smooth, but also out of my expertise. Also, if you find you don’t like the RSVP style, but still want to read books on your iPhone, do go download BookShelf, I think it’s the best out there right now. A close second is the free Stanza, but it’s overly complicated to get the books on your phone, and they often come across as “unknown.”

I have a mac book pro and iphone bought the app and have had great difficulties i.e. cant, in getting information to the speed reader. I have used stanza as you suggested and have successfully uploaded books to stanza on the iphone. Your directions for doing this for your app is poor. I have attempted to use Apache but still don't know how this is supposed to work with my iphone and yes I have attempted to add books.

So could you give clearer help instructions and better details on how to set it up using apache or any other means.

Also I am no expert but if I can upload to stanza why can't i just transfer from stanza to speed reader on the iphone.

    Earliest response appreciated

Simian Speed Reader looks cool. I'm definitely interested in RSVP reading on my iPodTouch. I just read a book with the SpeedReader app, and liked it. I'd buy yours if it supports white text on black background (I only see white in the screen shots). Can it do that? Thanks!
